If there is more the peprson then meets the eye then why is it when people look in mirrors they only look at their appearence. Eyes are the window to the soul, and all they see is their own eye color. Is this the mirrors fault, does it only reflect the physical parts of a person, or is the person delibratly overlooking what there eyes hold. Do they know what they will find and choose to ignore it out of fear or complancy? or do they not realize what they can see if that simple reflection.

It is also said that the ultimate achievemt is to understand and know ones self and people who are considered to known themselves are held in high esteem. If this knowledge is so deseriable in a person why is it so rare? Why is the pursuit of it so rare? People fear knowing themselves for reasons similar to why they dont want to know other people. one reason is undesirable traits, traits such as jealousy, rage, pettiness, and cowardice. A person does not want to realize that they might have some of these traits that they hate so much in other people.

A related reason for this lack of self-reflection is people dont want to change or take blame and realizing one has flaws requires one to either change or ignore ones flawed behavior. This change is rarely easy or enjoyable and so todays easygoing population simply refuses to acknolwedge their flawed behavior. This can be seen in the reactions to criticism of a large portion of todays youth. The normal reaction today is something along the lines of "who are you to tell me im wrong" after which they continue the behavior.

Fear also affects the refusal to see and/or act on personal flaws. They fear they lack the strength to carry their disecion through to completion.
